Entrance Scholarships

Entrance Scholarships

Selkirk College offers a variety of entrance scholarships of up to $2,700 for students beginning full-time post-secondary studies at Selkirk College for the first time. Awards are based on strong academic achievement in select grade 11 and/or 12 courses. Apply between February 15 and March 31.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an entrance scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Have graduated, or be about to graduate, from secondary school.
  • Register in the upcoming academic year in a full-time post-secondary program at Selkirk College: minimum 80% course load, or 40% for students with documented disabilities registered with Accessibility Services.
  • Be attending Selkirk College for the first time in a full-time post-secondary program.
  • Not be entering through Youth Train in Trades  (YTT) or apprenticeship level programs.

Important: While you do not need to be accepted into your program to submit your scholarship application, you WILL need to be fully accepted and enrolled in an eligible full-time program to receive any awards, which are issued after classes start.

Application Process

Application period: February 15 - March 31 each year.

How to apply:

  1. Apply to a Selkirk College program (acceptance not required at time of scholarship application, except for the Board of Governors Award) and obtain your Selkirk student number.
  2. Submit the online entrance scholarship application using your student number.
  3. Provide an official secondary school transcript as part of the entrance application.

This one application will ensure you are considered for any Selkirk College-issued Entrance Award that you are eligible for!

Transcript Submission Requirements

BC students (current and former): Selkirk College strongly recommends that students use the Student Transcript Services (STS) to send transcripts directly to Selkirk College.

STS is preferred for eligible BC students because it provides:

  • Fast, electronic delivery
  • Secure and authentic documents directly from the Ministry
  • Automatic updates, including interim and final grades
  • Convenience - online access at any time
  • No risk of lost or incomplete documents

Applicants not eligible for STS, or those who choose not to use it, must closely follow these steps:

  • Current Grade 12 students must submit an up-to-date interim transcript that clearly includes first-semester Grade 12 final percentage grades.
  • Previous graduates must submit final official transcripts including all final Grade 11 and 12 percentage grades.
  • Selection is competitive and based on the highest cumulative GPA across specific Grade 11/12 courses. Failure to submit transcripts showing final percentages will prevent scholarship consideration.
If You Are Awarded an Entrance Scholarship
  • You will receive a scholarship offer vis email (typically mid-May).
  • You will be required to accept the award by a set deadline and will be asked to provide a short thank-you note to the donor.
  • Ensure you register at Selkirk College for the first time in a full-time (minimum 80%) post-secondary program. Students with document disabilities registered with Accessibility Services may register at 40%.
  • Selkirk College will verify that students meet all eligibility requirements in late September.
  • Once eligibility is confirmed, qualifying students will have their scholarships released to their student accounts.
