Technology Needs

Find out some general technology guidelines and basic computer requirements for all courses. It is important to check with your instructor for specific hardware and software required for the course and/or program you are registered in.

What Do I Need?

  • A computer that meets or exceeds the minimum requirement of your program.
  • A reliable internet connection—broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE), minimum 10 Mbps upload and 25 Mbps download. The faster the better!
  • You may purchase recommended system configurations online from recommended vendors listed.
  • Note: mobile devices and tablets are not recommended for completing or submitting course activities. Connection to Cloud services for file submissions is not supported at this time.

Online Requirements

  • The Selkirk College Learning Management System (LMS) is a web-based program called “Moodle” (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment). You will need access to a computer with reliable internet and browser to access to syllabus, course calendar, assignments and other course materials and functions via Moodle.
Moodle requirements
  1. The current version of web browser Mozilla Firefox works best with Moodle. Other browsers such as Internet Explorer, Chrome or Safari may be used, but they may not support all functionalities in Moodle, such as online quizzes and the HTML editor.
  2. JavaScript must be enabled. See Mozilla support.
  3. Cookies must be enabled. See Mozilla support.
  4. Pop-up blocker is turned OFF.  By default, this setting is ON.  See Mozilla support.
