University/College Programs
University Transfer & Associate Degree Programs
University Transfer and Associate Degree Programs help high school graduates gain university admission. Courses in these programs are the same as university courses, and are transferable at the first and second year levels at all B.C. universities. In addition, many students also receive transfer credit for universities in other provinces in Canada and the United States.
BC Council on admissions and transfer and the BC Transfer System
The BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) is responsible for the facilitation of admission, articulation and transfer arrangements among BC colleges, institutes, and universities. Selkirk College is a member of the BC Transfer System. Our University Transfer (UT) or University Arts and Sciences (UAS) courses are fully transferable to universities in B.C. such as UBC, UVic, or SFU. For specific course transferability, please consult the BC Transfer Guide website and select Selkirk as sending institution.
What is an associate degree?
An associate degree is a two-year credential in arts or science offered by select B.C. institutions. If you graduate with an associate degree and want to pursue further study you can receive priority admission at some BC universities, and a guarantee of 60 transfer credits. Selkirk College offers Associate Degree in Arts and Science.
Can I transfer from Selkirk College to any B.C. post-secondary institution?
All institutions that are part of the BC Transfer System accept transfer students. See http://www.bctransferguide.ca/system/ for the institutions listed in the BC Transfer Guide. It is recommended that students complete a minimum of 2 semesters (or 1 full year) to have the best transfer opportunities.
Is there a minimum grade for course transfer?
In order to receive transfer credit, you must have passed the course with at least 50% or higher. Visit http://www.bctransferguide.ca/help/before/ for details. Some universities may require a higher grade for entrance to some programs.
Academic Upgrading and Development
Students requiring upgrading or high school completion may be able to complete requirements while enrolled in the English Language Program. Many of our Adult Basic Education (ABE) courses are college upgrading courses equivalent to High School Grade 10, 11 or 12. These courses are for Canadian or international students who do not have the high school prerequisite courses and are preparing for college or university.
English Language (ESL) and English Preparation
Before being fully accepted into an associate degree or diploma program at Selkirk College, international students must either meet the English language proficiency requirements or complete the Advanced level of our English Language program.
Transferring from Selkirk College to universities
Students who complete 1 or 2 years of University transferable Arts & Science are eligible to transfer to some of the best universities in Canada, including UBC, SFU, and UVIC.
Additionally, almost all diploma programs have block transfer agreements with key universities across the province and throughout Canada. Block Transfer means that the entire 2 year program is given 2 years of transfer credit rather than course by course.
Try one of over 60 College-University and Career programs. Most programs qualify for 'Post-Graduation Work Permits'.
Students who meet the entrance requirements can apply to Selkirk College's 60+ post-secondary certificate, diploma and associate degree programs. Selkirk International provides assistance with admission requirements and advising. Upon completion, transfer your Selkirk College credits to universities worldwide to complete your degree.
