FAQs
Is this typing test accepted by employers?
Yes, results are issued as a professional letter certified and issued by Selkirk College. They are widely accepted around the world.
What Zoom settings do I need?
Please ensure you are familiar with all Zoom features prior to your appointment, as our proctors are not able to provide technical support during the session.
Make sure your background blur is disabled and that your system settings allow Zoom to share your screen. We must be able to view your screen throughout the session.
The first 10 minutes of the session will be spent with other participants while everyone gets set up for the typing test. During this time, you may blur your background. Once setup is complete, you’ll be moved to a private breakout room for identity screening.
How long is the test?
Tests are five minutes long. You will have six attempts at the test. You can do as many of the six as you would like.
It typically takes 10–15 minutes to get everything set-up before you test. Each test result is unique. We choose the best one to put on a letter for you. Please plan 45-60 minutes so you are not rushed.
What typing speed do I need?
Please review the requirements outlined in your specific job posting or school application, as these will guide what you need to request. They will also indicate whether Net Words per Minute (NWPM) or Gross Words per Minute (GWPM) is required.
Be sure to check the accuracy standard they expect. If no specific requirement is listed, we provide a standard accuracy rate of 90%. If a higher accuracy is needed, please inform your proctor prior to testing.
You can backspace within a word to correct an error, but once you move on to the next word, any mistake will still count as an error.
Please note that free online tests typically allow for a significantly higher margin of error, so your scores may appear higher compared to those in regulated testing environments.
Do I get a certified letter at the end of the test?
Yes, you will get a letter usually within an hour of completing your test or by the end of the day.
