AESP 263 Water Pollution Chemistry. This course continues the study of environmental chemistry with an emphasis on water quality, water and wastewater treatment. This course reinforces laboratory safety and lab skills acquired in year one. The course explores properties of water and introduces the use of colorimetry and atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). Labs cover a benthic invertebrate study, toxicity testing, coagulant dosing, testing water for chlorine residual, and the quantitative determination of a metal in water samples using both a colorimetric method and AAS. In addition to water analysis, data analysis and data presentation using a spreadsheet is emphasized.
