Danny Beatty, Selkirk College’s director of workforce and international development, has been awarded the 2026 International Education Distinguished Leadership Award by the BC Council for International Education (BCCIE).
For more than 16 years, Beatty has played a pivotal role in strengthening and expanding Selkirk College’s international program. The annual BCCIE awards celebrate leaders in international education who have helped position British Columbia as a global destination for learners and have built meaningful partnerships around the world.
“Behind every leader is an innovative and hard-working team that deserves just as much credit and recognition,” says Beatty. "One of the most rewarding aspects of this position is witnessing international students adapt to life in a rural setting, finding success in their academic journey at Selkirk College and contributing to the local economy as they settle in the West Kootenay.”
Under Beatty’s guidance, Selkirk College has established key relationships with educational agencies, government organizations and industry. The college has increased its international enrolment while maintaining its commitment to exceptional student support and a welcoming, student-first environment.
“Danny’s leadership and commitment have helped strengthen the college’s international presence and student experience,” says Vice-President of Students and External Relations Brier Albano. “His student-first approach and understanding of program development have opened doors for countless learners, making access to education here more seamless and attainable.”
