What is the School of University Arts and Sciences?
We are a group of disciplines that are joined together into a school that forms the “traditional” arts or sciences education streams as well as exploring more innovative directions in which these fields can move.
Who Would Become a UAS student?
Any student interested in pursuing arts or science education at the university level. Start your degree at Selkirk College and get your Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degree upon transferring. Examples of UAS students include some of the following: future doctors, pharmacists, scientists, actuaries, lawyers, political analysts, sociologists and anthropologists.
Who are our Faculty?
Although the minimal requirement for a teaching position in the School of UAS is an M.A. or M.S. in the relevant discipline, many of our faculty members have a doctorate in their discipline. We also emphasize a teaching focus in our hiring, so our faculty members see teaching as their core activity.
Many of our instructors are engaged as professionals in their disciplines. Many of our writing department faculty are published authors, sciences department faculty are involved in ground-breaking scientific research and a working engineer is teaching in our engineering program. Many of our faculty are graduates from prestigious institutions and have received coveted fellowships and awards.

How do our Courses Transfer?
BC has one of the best transfer systems in North America. All of our courses are articulated on the BC Transfer Guide website and transfer well to the major Universities in BC. Since our course content and textbooks are “industry standards," and because of the high level of qualification of our faculty, we have an excellent success with transfer beyond BC as well. One of a select group offered a full-ride academic scholarship from the University of British Columbia, Stephanie Kirk credits the start she received at Selkirk College as the fuel she needed to reach an important post-secondary goal.
A graduate of Rossland Secondary School who went on to start her post-secondary education at Selkirk College has been awarded a significant scholarship as she heads to Ottawa’s Carleton University this fall. Maddie Snelgrove earned herself a $12,000 entrance scholarship taking her from the local School of University Arts & Sciences to the Urbanism Program, a unique undergraduate program in Architecture.
