MA, Social Justice and Gender Studies; BA, Political Science and International Development Studies
With a master's degree in social justice and gender studies, Sarah Somerville has developed a strong feminist framework, which she uses to approach all of her work. Sarah’s previous academic work included identifying and reducing barriers for women accessing shelter spaces in Ontario, as well as examining local feminist history and activism in rural and isolated communities. She also has a long history of working in customer service and tourism, which has greatly informed her approach to communication and working effectively within a team.
Sarah holds a deep understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by students in post-secondary education. Her passion for student support and accessibility grew from her time as a teacher’s assistant at Lakehead University, where she helped students navigate the complex landscape of student life.
Sarah has worked with students of all ages and from many backgrounds, including those with diverse learning needs. She has experience supporting students both in groups and in one-on-one settings, helping find pathways for individual students to meet their goals.
