Taya Whitehead has been a dedicated member of Selkirk College since 2008. A graduate of both the Early Childhood Care & Education Certificate and the Human Services Diploma, she also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care from the University of Victoria and a Master of Integrated Studies in Adult Education and Community Studies from Athabasca University. Taya further holds a Provincial Instructor Diploma and a Certificate in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, reflecting her strong commitment to inclusive and effective teaching and learning.
An educator at heart, Taya has taught learners across the lifespan, with a particular passion for adult education. Throughout her career at Selkirk College, she has held a range of roles, including faculty in the Human Services programs, school chair for the School of Health and Human Services, and dean of Health and Human Services and the Teaching and Learning Centre. She currently serves as Vice-President Academic and Provost, where she is committed to fostering student success, academic excellence and community engagement.
Beyond her professional work, Taya is actively involved in volunteer initiatives at the local, provincial and national levels. She values time with her family, enjoys being on the water and appreciates exploring the region's natural beauty.
