These mountains, lakes and rivers surrounding what I know as Nelson, is my home. This place is also the ancestorial Land of the Sinixt First Nation (kʷu sn̓ʕay̓čkstx).
My family immigrated to Canada from Scotland and England. I am a third-generation Canadian, early childhood educator (ECE educator), early childhood education and care instructor (ECEC), mother, grandmother, auntie, sister and daughter.
I bring over 35 years of experience in ECEC to my practice and pedagogy. I am a Selkirk College alumna, completing an ECE certificate, HSER diploma and associate of arts degree in Castlegar, BC. I am a UVIC (BCYC) and UBC (MEd ECE) alumni. In September 2025, I began a Doctorate in Education in Equity Studies at the University of Western Ontario (UWO). For me, reading, writing, thinking deeply, knowledge sharing, and professional development are ongoing processes—spaces that invite me to rethink, return and revise "ongoingly."
My pedagogical commitment is to (re)thinking and (re)invigorating the image/identity of the early childhood educator. My work centres around nurturing a strong and rich image of the early childhood educator; one who is responsive, care-full, respectful, ethical, professional and relational- capable and competent to respond to the concerns of our current times.
