Selkirk College has a diverse offerings of programs to meet the learning needs of adult students. There are many options available that lead to certification and develop transferable skills for adult living and employment.
Levels of Programming
Goals: Transitions in Adult Living
Ideal for students who are working on individualized skill-building in the areas of literacy, numeracy, computer technology or adaptive functioning skills. View the GOALS PDF.
Foundations: Skills for Adult Living
Ideal for students who are at a beginner level for basic literacy and numeracy skills and require a specific focus on transitional skills to adult-life and employment. View the FOUNDATIONS PDF.
Discovery: Skills for Employment
Ideal for students who are ready to engage in the world of employment and learn essential employability skills. The program will focus on developing and building upon skills to maintain successful employment or continue to build upon employment opportunities.

Mastery: Skills for Specific Employment Sectors
Ideal for students who are keen to specialize their skills set for a specific sector of employment.
Students may be co-enrolled in Discovery Level courses as a full-time student. View the MASTERY PDF.
Mentorship: Skills for Transitions in Community
Mentorship is in development. Ideal for students who are natural leaders in the classroom and would benefit from an additional year to mentor new students, and transitioning successful beyond college.
Our Teaching and Learning Philosophy
SOAR (Steps to Opportunities, Academics & Readiness) programs include hands-on, experiential education designed to prepare students for success in a variety of workplace, volunteer, and community settings. Students are exposed to a blended learning platform which includes foundational academic and life skills that are essential for developing life-long learners.
Our learners will:
- Build on strengths and interests boosting self confidence
- Identify, create and achieve personal goals
- Build self-awareness and learn to work with others
- Develop and use effective strategies for handling conflict, change and stress, and problem solving
- Build self-awareness and learn to work with others
- Develop resource and support networks
- Enhance employment readiness and develop useful and transferable workplace skills
- Identify and practice appropriate safety procedures
- Increase numeracy, literacy and technology skills

We believe in giving learners the chance to flourish in a supportive college setting. It is important we take the time to get to know a prospective student so an individual plan is developed to foster success and appropriately meet the needs of the student and programming.
