The John and Marjorie Lord Memorial Scholarship has been established by their family in gratitude for their love and support.
John and Marjorie began their married life in 1935 on the Lord family farm, outside Fredericton, NB. In 1944, John attended the Ontario Agricultural College (part of the University of Guelph), where he was enrolled in the dairy program. John spent the rest of his career as a dairy inspector for the Province of Nova Scotia, working out of a laboratory at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro. A man of fastidious habits, he was well suited to his career as an analyst. He would be most pleased to be associated with this scholarship, awarded to students who, like he did, thoroughly enjoy their studies in the field of chemistry.
Despite her quick mind and sharp wit, Marjorie never had the opportunity to pursue post-secondary education herself, as was typical for women of her generation. However, she had great admiration for her daughter’s academic achievements, and encouraged her granddaughters to take advantage of their academic opportunities. She also took great pride in her well-educated husband, son, and grandson.
Both John and Marjorie took obvious pride in all of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Since John’s death near the end of 2000, and Marjorie’s two-and-a-half years later, they have been greatly missed. In their memory, the family is glad to endow this scholarship in the hope that it will allow other young people to reach their academic goals.
