The union representing support staff at Selkirk College is reaching out to students with a generous $5,000 donation to the COVID-19 Student Relief Fund.
The Public & Private Workers of Canada (PPWC) Union represents 160 Selkirk College employees who serve in a variety of support service areas like food service, building service workers, maintenance, administrative support, marketing, athletics & recreation and IT. When the Local 26 executive surveyed members for support of a donation, the response was quick and overwhelmingly positive.

“This situation is difficult on the students that our members are used to seeing in the hallways every day,” says PPWC Local 26 President Rod Fayant. “It’s painful to know that some Selkirk College students don’t have the resources to pay rent or buy enough food to get through both the semester and the next couple of months. We look forward to a return to more normal times, but for now we want all students to know that we are thinking about them.”
The COVID-19 Student Relief Campaign hit the halfway mark with more than $30,000 raised collectively by community donations and matched dollar-for-dollar by Selkirk College Foundation. The money raised is providing short-term emergency funds to assist those students who have explored all other government supports and still fall short when it comes to paying for food, rent and school-related technology required to compete studies.
There are two weeks left to join this community of support. If you’re able, consider donating to our COVID-19 Student Relief Fund today. Every little bit helps. Your gift will go directly to students affected by the pandemic.
