Selkirk College is a Cool Campus!
Sweater Season is a two week long event where you can learn energy saving tips, pledge to save energy at home and win great prizes!
What will the 2021 Cool Campus Challenge look like?
In 2019 and 2020, Selkirk College was the winner of the BC wide Cool Campus Challenge. Post-secondary institutions across the Province challenged each other to reduce natural gas use and encourage campus community members to take energy conservation actions by signing the BC Cool Campus Pledge. Due to changes in campus activities in 2021, Sustainable Selkirk is hosting a Sweater Season event that includes an at home Cool Campus Challenge. This year we are competing against ourselves to see if we can beat the number of pledges taken last year at Selkirk. Take the cool campus pledge from home! By reducing natural gas use, we can reduce our climate impact and demonstrate climate leadership.
What actions are being encouraged, and why?
Simple actions like turning down the heat, wearing warmer clothing, taking shorter showers, and washing clothes in cold water all help reduce natural gas use and lower our carbon footprint.
These energy conservation habits help contribute to Sustainable Development Goal #13: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
