Each year, the Mir Centre awards a grant of $1,000 to a student who is actively engaged in work and/or learning that aligns with the mission of the Mir Centre for Peace – understanding and building cultures of peace.
With great pleasure, we awarded this year’s Mir grant for 2021 to Alexandra Buhr. In her application, Alex described her commitment to inclusion and anti-oppression within the realm of birth work. Her dream is to become a midwife, and en route to that goal, she intends to pursue training and certification as a doula.
She wrote of her commitment to providing “cost-accessible, culturally safe and barrier-free doula services to birthing people in my community during their labour, delivery and postpartum paths.”
On behalf of donor representative Carolyn Schramm, we congratulate Alex and wish her all the best in pursuing her dream of helping others in this way.
