Tarunjit Jassar, a 2016 alumnus currently employed at Selkirk College, moved from India with a Masters degree to take the two-year diploma in Accounting. His agent suggested Selkirk College, so Tarunjit did some research and was thrilled to see that the college was located in a beautiful region that offered many outdoor activities. He soon found that studying in Canada was a little different than studying in India.
“ Learning from the Canadian perspective was quite different – it gives a taste of practical knowledge. The most valuable lesson I learned is that you get nothing until you ask for it.”
Tarunjit found that the best part of his experience at Selkirk College was the small class sizes wherein individual learning and development was the priority of instructors. He was hired by Selkirk College in 2014 and has found himself living in Castlegar where he is enjoying Canadian living.
“I have gone kayaking, camping, and explored the various trails around this area. I think Canadian living is about living free and exploring nature which I see myself doing everyday.”
Tarunjit plans to continue working for Selkirk College, helping it grow locally and internationally while serving the community.
“I wanted to move to a smaller city and have the opportunity to live a decent life. Castlegar and Selkirk College has helped me achieve this goal to the fullest.” “My message to future students is that ‘Best of all Inquire’ and pave your path to success. Choose your own and I am sure you will get all the support you need to succeed.”
