Selkirk College, Columbia Basin Trust and ETSI-BC Bursaries
Applicants must be registered in a minimum 60% course load* for both the Fall and Winter semesters of their program - or for trades programs students must be registered in a minimum 60% course load* for the duration of their program. Applicants must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 = “C” grade for the study period under consideration.
Selkirk College Bursaries - a variety of bursaries are available each year for Selkirk College students. These bursaries are made possible by the generosity of donors who support educational goals of all post-secondary learners.
Columbia Basin Trust bursaries (The Trust or CBT) - funds students who have resided in the Columbia Basin for a minimum three years and who are enrolled in post-secondary programs. The Trust was created in 1995 to support efforts by the people of the Basin to create a legacy of social, economic and environmental well-being in the Canadian portion of the Columbia River Basin — the region most affected by the Columbia River Treaty (CRT).
Economic Trust of Southern Interior (ETSI-BC) (formally SIDIT) - funds students from communities across the Southern Interior of B.C. who've entered a wide range of trades, technology and academic programs at Southern Interior Universities and Colleges.

How do I apply?

Note: The bursary application will ask questions about how you are financing your education. Please read and answer the questions carefully and declare all sources of funds that will be used to pay for your education and living expenses. If the declared sources of funds appear to be too low for your living sitution (ie: living alone and paying rent) we may question how you are able to support yourself. These applications will not be considered for bursaries.
Who qualifies?
- Canadian or International students.
- Enrolment in a post-secondary semester program - must complete the Fall and Winter semesters maintaining a minimum 60% course load. *
- Enrolment in a post-secondary trades foundation or apprenticeship program - must maintain a minimum 60% course load during the program.*
- Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 = “C” grade.
* Students with a documented disability must maintain a minimum 40% course load and be registered with the Accessibility Office at Selkirk College.
Application Steps
- Apply for bursaries during application period.

Applicants will be required to answer questions regarding the following:
- Sources of income
- Student loan and/or bank loan information
- Family size
- Number of dependents
- Living arrangements, etc.
What happens next?
- Award recipients will be notified by email by mid-December.
- Students will be offered an opportunity accept or decline their bursary. Those who accept will be asked to write a thank you letter using the Bursary Acceptance form.
- Award winners will be invited to attend the Bursary Tea event, held in February 2023, to meet their donor and receive their funds.
How will funds be released?
- All tuition and fees must be paid in full by the fee deadline dates.
- After the third week of January, Financial Aid will confirm that students are in the required minimum 60% course load (40% for students with a documented disability) and have met the minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 = “C” grade. Students who do not meet the minimum requirements will not be eligible to receive their award.
- Bursary cheques will be prepared for the Bursary Tea event held in February 2023.
- Students have the option to attend the Bursary Tea event to meet their donor and receive their award – or – after the event the cheques will be available for pick up from the Financial Aid office.
Thank You Letters
Bursary awards have been made possible through the generous support of people and organizations who donate to Selkirk College. Award winners are asked to write a short ‘Thank You’ letter to their donors using our online Thank You form. This gesture is greatly appreciated by those who work with Selkirk College to support students in reaching their educational goals. Your meaningful words may be used in other promotional material as Selkirk College works to raise awareness about the benefits of bursaries.

If I drop below a 60% course load will I still be eligible for my Bursary award?
- To maintain eligibility for your Bursary award you must be in a minimum 60% course load for the Fall and Winter semesters - or - for Trades programs a minimum 60% course load for the duration of the program. Students with a documented disability are eligible to study at a 40% course load and must be registered with the Accessibility Office at Selkirk College.
