Chinese Calligraphy

Learn about the historical development of Chinese writing and its place in the modern world. Get familiar with the tools and materials for making calligraphy. The course will take the students on a journey to steadily and gradually master the brush and, in turn, master themselves. Participants will practice and work to complete one Chinese Calligraphy piece on traditional rice paper.

Zen Wang was trained as a classical Chinese brush painter, and calligraphy was part of his foundational training. Zen is a member of the Director's Guild of Canada and has worked in the TV and film industry as Art Director and Assistant Art Director, specializing in Chinese Calligraphy and Asian Art. His work can be seen on shows such as "Blood and Water Season 3" (CBC), "Wish Upon" (on Kanopy), "The Silence" (Netflix), "I Woke Up A Vampire" (Netflix), "Shadow Hunters" (Netflix), "Beauty and Beast" (CBS), "Designated Survivor Season 2 & 3" (ABE), "Ghost Writer Season 1 & 2" (Apple TV).
