Stellar student outcomes in the college’s School of Business were celebrated at the annual Dean’s Reception held on the Castlegar Campus in mid-March.
With the final push of the winter semester on, students and instructors took a moment to shine a spotlight on individual achievement in the classroom. Students finishing each semester with a 3.5 grade-point-average or higher were included on the Dean’s List and those with a 4.0 grade-point-average found themselves on the Dean’s Honour Roll.
“The world is a weird place right now and we are really needing some positive change,” said Tiffany Snauwaert, the dean of the School of Business. “Our graduates will help lead change, create better workplace cultures and demonstrate the importance of diversity. We need you as a society and we are really honoured to walk along beside you in this journey.”
The School of Business has different individual programs that provide the knowledge and skills that learners require to forge dynamic careers in business that include professional management and accounting finance. With an excellent transfer system, graduates from Selkirk College programs also have variety of options to move forward in bachelor degree programs.
“We know you are moving forward into incredible opportunities and bright futures,” said Jeanne Kim, chair of the School of Business. “We are very confident that you are going to be the positive changemakers in our world. There has been a lot of work to get this point and congratulations on this well-earned recognition, we can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next.”
The School of Business was one of four original programs offered to students when the doors opened at Selkirk College in 1966. Since that time, graduates have moved onto vital careers both in the region and beyond. Decades of graduates can be found in every corner of business, industry and organizations.
“There is a lot that students need to overcome to get here and it’s exciting to see that all in one room,” said Snauwaert, herself a Selkirk College alumna of the program. “When I am out in our communities talking to employers in a variety of industries and sectors, I continue to hear that Selkirk College School of Business graduates are valued and they are very beneficial to the organizations they work with. Employers greatly appreciate the expertise that our graduates have gained in their studies, but also in the lived experiences and previous education that our students arrive with when they choose Selkirk College.”
