The opportunities that Selkirk students appreciate to engage deeply with faculty and peers in small classes here are just as appealing to me and my talented colleagues who have chosen to teach here.
My wife and I planted our roots in the Kootenays nearly two decades ago because of the amazing skiing, mountain biking, backpacking and sailing that are available in these beautiful surroundings. We recognized that the dynamic people in this region who are committed to social, economic and environmental justice would be wonderful neighbours, colleagues, friends and teachers/mentors to our children.
Prior to joining the faculty at Selkirk, I taught at La Sierra University in California, have been on the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba, and served as an adjunct clinical professor with UBC and SFU. I have spent the majority of my career providing psychological assessment and treatment as the founder of Summit Psychology Group in Nelson, at Pine River Institute in Ontario, and with the Kootenay Lake School District in Nelson. Leading professional development workshops for teachers, physicians, psychologists, social workers, nurses and others across western Canada is an ongoing interest. I have been honoured to serve in volunteer capacities with the British Columbia Psychological Association, the College of Psychologists of BC, Kalein Hospice Centre, and the regional action team for Child Youth Mental Health and Substance Use.
