This course provides the basis of compliance to the Workers Compensation Act Division 4 for Joint Committees in workplaces.
Joint Committees are now required to be evaluated on a yearly basis to show compliance to the WCA and regulation.
Regulation also requires that basic training be provided to new committee members on:
- Joint Committee Structure
- Joint Committee Duties and Function
- Joint Committee Inspections
- The Right to Refuse Unsafe Work
- Investigation Compliance
The content of this course is delivered through a lecture style with group discussions and group work with real workplace connections.
At the end of the course students will have an increased awareness of:
- The Workers Compensation Act and the regulations related to roles of the Joint Committee
- Their role and the roles of others on the Joint Committee
- The structure of a Joint Committee, proper meetings, etc.
- An understanding of the Right To Refuse and its relation to the workplace and the Joint Committee
- How to conduct and properly document (fact not opinions):
- Workplace inspection
- Accident investigation
- Risk assessments that cover risks such as Chemicals, Biohazards, Ergonomics, Psychological and Physical
