Scholarships and bursaries are available from organizations outside of Selkirk College. These awards will each have their own eligibility requirements and application process. You may be eligible for an external award from:
- Your parents’ association with an employer, union or club
- Organizations that are looking to assist students studying in a specific field
Selkirk College encourages students to seek external awards to further fund their studies.
Student Responsibilities
Ensure that you have reviewed the terms and conditions for your external award and completed any requirements. The external agency will need your Selkirk College student ID number to send your award to the college. If any information is missing or incorrect, this may cause a delay in processing your award.
If you withdraw from Selkirk College or fail to meet the external agency's requirements at any time during the academic year, you must get in touch with the external agency to arrange for possible repayment. It's important to note that Selkirk College will not intervene between you and the external agency.
If your award will not arrive prior to the tuition deadline, you will either need to pay your tuition and fees in advance and receive a refund when the award is applied to your account, or you can request a tuition deferral to extend your payment deadline up to the end of the first week of classes.
Additional requirements from the external organization
Some external organizations may require a Confirmation of Enrolment letter and the cost of your tuition before funding is sent to Selkirk College. You can request a Confirmation of Enrolment letter by emailing your Enrolment Officer.
Courses tuition and fees can fluctuate based on your course enrolment. Students are required to attach their registration from their student accounts to provide exact tuition and fees. Review full program costs.
A course registration statement for the current semester can be downloaded from your student record.
Payment details for external awards
Cheques can be made payable to Selkirk College and sent to the Finance Office for processing. Funds will be assigned to your student account once the Finance Office confirms that you are registered.
It takes approximately four to six weeks for the award amount to show in your account from the date Finance receives the fund. During busy times, such as the start of the term, the processing time may be longer.
After the cheque is processed, you will receive an email notification that the funds have been applied to your account.
To ensure Finance has the proper information to deposit the cheque, you must provide the external organization with the following information:
- Full name
- Student number
This information should be written on the face of the cheque in the memo or comments area. Cheques that do not include this information will not be processed.
Questions?
Please contact the external agency first for questions about incoming funding to Selkirk College.
If the funds have been sent, contact Financial Aid for an update on distribution.
Information for External Organizations
Award processing
Cheques can be mailed to:
Selkirk College
Attention: Finance—External Awards Processing
301 Frank Beinder Way
Castlegar, British Columbia
Canada V1N 4L3
Cheques received without clear instructions and student-identifying information will not be processed and will be returned to the sender.
If you would like to pay via electronic funds transfer, please email us for assistance. Selkirk College will apply the award payment to the student’s account on behalf of the external organization as long as the student is registered in courses. Subsequent changes by students to their course load or withdrawal from Selkirk College will not result in recovery of award funding from Selkirk College. External organizations will need to arrange for repayment directly with the student.
If the recipient does not register at Selkirk College within three months of receipt of the award, the college will return funds back to the external organization via cheque.
Upon submission of award funding to be processed by Selkirk College to the external award recipient, the external organization agrees to follow Selkirk College policies. Unfortunately, Selkirk College will not be able to administer the external award if it conflicts with Selkirk College policy.
Please note that student information will only be released with the consent of the student through completed and submitted Authorization of Release of Student Information and Sponsorship Authorization forms. Alternatively, request that the student provide a confirmation of enrolment letter.
T4A tax documents
By default, Selkirk College will issue the T4A to the students on behalf of the external organization in late February.
To avoid issuing duplicate T4A tax forms to the students, please clearly indicate on the instructions attached to the award funding that you prefer to issue your own T4A to the recipient.
