This course provides the basis of compliance to the Workers Compensation Act Division 4 for Joint Committees in workplaces.

Joint Committees are now required to be evaluated on a yearly basis to show compliance to the WCA and regulation.

Regulation also requires that basic training be provided to new committee members on:

  • Joint Committee Structure
  • Joint Committee Duties and Function
  • Joint Committee Inspections
  • The Right to Refuse Unsafe Work
  • Investigation Compliance

The content of this course is delivered through a lecture style with group discussions and group work with real workplace connections.

At the end of the course students will have an increased awareness of:

  1. The Workers Compensation Act and the regulations related to roles of the Joint Committee
  2. Their role and the roles of others on the Joint Committee
  3. The structure of a Joint Committee, proper meetings, etc.
  4. An understanding of the Right To Refuse and its relation to the workplace and the Joint Committee
  5. How to conduct and properly document (fact not opinions):
    1. Workplace inspection
    2. Accident investigation
    3. Risk assessments that cover risks such as Chemicals, Biohazards, Ergonomics, Psychological and Physical
