Off-Campus Housing

Every student is unique and finding a housing situation to match each individual is important.
If Selkirk College Student Housing Services are not able to meet your needs or you would like to live a part from your campus, there are a variety of resources and options open to students in the local communities.
Landlords and tenants should always excercise awareness and dilligence to ensure they are entering into a legitimate renal arrangement. Please be aware that Selkirk College will not be involved in any arrangements or warranties for either party involved in a rental or homeshare agreement.

Quick tips on renting in the West Kootenay region
- The housing market in the Kootenay and Boundary regions is very competetive. Make sure to have your name, contact and housing references ready before making any housing inquiries. Landlords may ask personal questions, such as if you have a job and or where you attend school.
- Move-in dates are normally the first day of each month. Tenants normally must tell their landlord one month before they are planning on moving out.
- Landlords will typically ask new tenants to pay a damage deposit. This fee is usually half the cost of one month's rent and will be returned upon moving out, providing that the rented unit is in the same condition as when you moved in.
- Double-check which campus your program is hosted. Although applications such as Google Maps will give you an estimated travel length, weather across the four seasons can dramatically impact the length of a commute. Make sure to give yourself more than enough time to drive to your destination.
