I began my career holding a credential in early childhood education with a focus in Waldorf education. Today I have worked in the field of education for four decades and have taught across the lifespan. As an early childhood educator, I worked in preschool, kindergarten, and managed an infant-toddler centre with a young parent component. I moved on to managing provincial and federal programs for children and families such as Community Action Programs for Children (CAPC) and Childcare Resource and Referral (CCRR). Teaching adults lead to the completion of the Provincial Instructor Diploma (PIDP), and eventually, I pursued a master's degree in Learning and Technology (MALAT) with Royal Roads University. I taught for 11 years in the Human Services department in the Early Childhood Care and Education program (ECCE) at Selkirk College. But my passion for teaching and learning, especially teaching in an online environment, brought me to my current position as Education Developer in the Teaching and Learning Centre.
While teaching, I have had several opportunities to engage in research projects. I studied the Early Learning Framework of BC and the Te Whariki of New Zealand. My interest in the Te Whariki lead to a journey to New Zealand, where I was able to research and study the New Zealand early learning system first-hand. My graduate studies lead to research into the use of mobile devices with children aged 0-5. And most recently I have been researching the effectiveness of a digital community of practice in ECCE.
As an educator it has always been my goal to inspire students, and I carry this goal with me as education developer for Selkirk College.
