"'Knowledge is power!' my mom always told me. I want to support and inspire others just as I have been supported and inspired throughout my own educational journey." — Jenn Lucke
Jenn has been a passionate learner since her dad first inspired her love of nature and science as a wee lass. She has lived a life full of adventures, living in various locations around BC and Alaska. Initially getting a degree as a biologist, Jenn has studied bald eagles, mountain goats and caribou. She has been up-close and personal with millions of fish, working as a biologist on fishing boats in the Bering Sea and along the coast of BC. After life on the high seas, she came back to land to get her teaching degree and lived in the Gulf Islands for several years putting her various skills to use, before moving back to the Kootenays.
During her career, Jenn attended Selkirk College on three separate occasions, receiving a diploma in Wildland Recreation, a teaching degree (through WKTEP, when it was affiliated with Selkirk College), and a certificate in one of the many on-line programs offered by the college. Her Selkirk College experience helped form her passion as a learner and inspired her to support others in their own journey.
As far as she traveled, the Kootenays were always home to her. She has family in Grand Forks and Creston, and was excited to make Kaslo her home in 2016. Building strong community and social justice are two important cornerstones of Jenn’s personal philosophy, and by working at Selkirk College, she gets to give back to the community, supporting others in their own academic journey.
