Rena is the Chair of the School of Environment & Geomatics and a researcher with Selkirk Innovates.

Rena is an ecologist and GIS specialist. She completed her M.Sc. at the University of Alberta, studying fish population dynamics in small boreal lakes. Rena spent several years in the consulting industry locally, working on projects related to hydroelectric impacts and conservation of rare fish species before moving to Selkirk College in 1999. Since then, she has taught ecology, fisheries and GIS courses.

Rena is currently involved in research projects on automating fish and fish habitat detection in waterbodies using innovative remote sensing techniques and UAVs. She also helps to coordinate the animal care committee at the college.
