Prior to these roles, Ali worked as an aerospace consultant with Defence Research and Development Canada, and worked as a European Commission funded Marie Curie Early Stage Research Fellow at ISI Foundation in Italy under the ITN-WALL project on modeling magnetic phenomena in nanomaterials.
Ali has extensive experience in the Space sector. He is a former Chair of the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), serving in this role from 2016 to 2018. Prior to becoming Chair, he served as the SGAC Operations Manager, Executive Secretary, and Space Safety and Sustainability project group co-lead among other roles. From 2020 to 2021, he was also the Moon Village Implementation Support Officer at the Moon Village Association.
With a background in aerospace engineering, business and physics, Ali has been active in teaching at the University of Toronto from 2010 to 2019, supporting the Engineering Outreach Office, the Engineering Strategies and Practices program and the Aircraft Design course throughout the years. He also volunteers with Let’s Talk Science, and Skype A Scientist, and was a mentor of the Ontario Online Research Coop program.
Ali currently serves as Chair of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) Space Education and Outreach Committee, Vice-Chair of IAF Workforce Development-Young Professional Program (WD-YPP) committee and Expert Board Member at Skolkovo Foundation's Space Technology and Telecommunications Cluster. He is also a recipient of the IAF Young Space Leaders Award.
