Recycling units can be found across all Selkirk College campuses. These units have 3 streams: recycling, refundables and garbage.
Blue recycling bins are for PAPER ONLY at this time. Accepted items include: paper, newspaper, magazines, and box board/thin cardboard. NO coffee cups, NO shredded paper, NO plastics, NO corrugated cardboard.
All recycling must be clean and dry.
Remember, one wrong item can contaminate the entire bin, preventing these otherwise recyclable materials from ever seeing a second life. Let's recycle right.

Did you know that composting reduces methane emissions from landfills and lowers your carbon footprint?!
Look for the green compost bins around the Castlegar campus. These bins are for your lunch food scraps - banana peels, apple cores, vegetable scraps, tea bags.
Our on site compost system cannot accept everything. NO meat, NO dairy, NO cardboard, NO to-go containers, NO coffee cups, NO bags of any kind (included compostable or biodegradable). Find out what is compostable...
The best way to ensure that batteries aren’t filling our landfills is to make sure they never get there.
You can recycle your batteries and cellphones on campus! Selkirk College is now a Call2Recycle collection partner.
Look for the collection boxes:
Castlegar Campus - The Pit
Kekuli Student Housing - Castlegar Campus
Applied Research & Innovation Centre, student lunch room
Tenth St Campus - near main doors of Patenaude Building
Silver King Campus - in Student Commons Building
Follow the simple instructions on the box -- bag it, seal it, drop it. It's that easy. Give your old batteries a new life!
