
As our world and our workplaces become more complex and diverse, managers and leaders need expanding skills. Developed in consultation with many of the largest employers in the West Kootenay/Boundary Region, this modular program will provide individuals with leadership skills and knowledge they can immediately employ in the workplace.
This highly interactive program fosters peer to peer learning while still providing flexibility for working professionals. Content is delivered through classroom sessions and through our online learning platform. Instructed by Lesley Beatson, PhD.
Program Format
Delivered over 4 modules that are spread over the course of 6 months , participants will learn from, and share experience with, a supportive group of like-minded peers from various industries.
Each module has 3 classroom sessions, delivered 1 day per week, over 3 consecutive weeks. There are also a number of learning activities delivered online during each module.
The modules are sequential and cumulative, with each session building on the previous one. However, each session is also designed as a complete and separate learning experience.
ALP Reunion Session - Review & Reflect Your Learning
A chance for past participants of the Applied Leadership Program to review and reflect how their leaning has impacted their daily lives both at work and in their personal lives. This reunion session will give you a chance to reconnect with your classmates and to determine what's been going well and how you might be able to remove any obstacles that are still in the way of your success as a leader.

Module 1 - Leadership Overview
We will review the evolution of leadership theory and examine the need for adaptability in response to change and diversity. You will become familiar with current models of leadership and be able to determine what model works best for you and your organization. You will explore the concept of organizational culture and how it is created, developed and managed.

Module 2 - Leading Self
Effective leadership development involves personal development. Using psychometric testing, and other self-reflective tools, small group exercises, and reflective practice, this module is designed to increase self-awareness and personal efficacy. Participants will be given activities to complete on their own in order to deepen their learning and build a foundation for on-going leadership development.

Module 3 - Leading Others
Success in your organization depends on good communication. In this course we learn and practice evidence based methods of listening and communicating.
Building relationships with customers, employees, stakeholders, networks, and partner organizations is an important requirement to successful leadership. In this unit we examine how to build a team, engage employees, coach performance and facilitate successful meetings.

Module 4 - Vision, Strategy, and Planning for Success - Leading and Managing Change
There is more to strategy than a plan. You need a clear vision and everyone must be aligned working toward that vision. In today’s world of rapid technological advances, change is the one thing you can count on. With knowledge of certain change principles leaders find it much easier to implement organizational change.
