Foraging For Local Mushrooms
Join mushroom farmer and forager Robin Mercy for a morning spent exploring our local West Kootenay forests in search of edible and medicinal mushrooms! The day starts with a discussion of the mushroom life cycle, growth patterns, and ID characteristics and ends with a fun and accessible foray through our local temperate rainforest. Presented with both the total beginner and the experienced mycophile in mind, this outing promises to be an informative and engaging way to deepen our knowledge of and appreciation for, our fungal friends.

Make Your Own Mushroom Log
Learn simple techniques for creating perennial mushroom logs for your home and garden! Participants will join local mushroom farmer Robin Mercy for a hands-on afternoon spent creating edible mushroom logs to take home, as well as learning about mushroom biology, identification and tips and tricks for a successful harvest. Choose from species including Shiitake, Lion's Mane, Oyster, Reishi and more and leave with the skills to keep growing your own mushrooms for years to come!

Principles of Mushroom Identification
Learn the basics of wild mushroom identification at home in this interactive online session! Mushroom farmer and forager Robin Mercy will explain some essential concepts, such as spore printing, understanding habitat and growth triggers, recording physical characteristics, and effectively using guidebooks and dichotomous keys. There will also be an overview of the mushroom life cycle, and a fungal Q and A period.

Skepticism 101: Adventures in Critical Thinking (Zoom)
Our beliefs are the filters through which we view reality. But do we choose what they are? How do we come to hold them? If our beliefs inform our actions and our actions have consequences, then having reliable tools for developing justified beliefs is critical. This interactive introductory course will help create a toolkit for critical thinking and an opproutnity to examine our beliefs using those tools. By learning about cognitive biases, logical fallacies and effective skepticism we can become better thinkers and less prone to false claims and flawed ideas. Learn to be in control of your beliefs in stead of your beliefs controlling you.
