International Practicum Placements at Sunrise Center in Uganda
Selkirk College and Nicole Valley Institute of Technology are offering five week practicum placements in Uganda that meet the requirements for Health & Human Services programs.
Are you interested? Are you eligible? How do you become involved?
Eligible students will have flights, accommodations, meals and other expenses covered in addition to a $300–$500 honorarium.
Your eligibility will be based on your current program and year, along with a variety of other eligibility requirements. Special consideration will be given to students with disabilities, of low income and who self-identify as Indigenous.
The project is funded by Global Skills Opportunity, the Government of Canada’s Outbound Student Mobility Pilot Program.
Uganda
Winter Cohort: Early January to late February 2023
- Selkirk: 4-year Nursing students
Spring Cohort : May to June 2023
- Selkirk: 3-year Nursing students
- Selkirk: 2-year students in ECCE, SSW and EACSW
Other eligibility requirements:
- be registered as a full-time student at Selkirk College or Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT)
- submit proof of Canadian citizenship
- maintain satisfactory practice evaluations
- maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher
Students who are interested and must submit an official application and may be asked to participate in an interview.
Many students face barriers when it comes to studying abroad, or participating in international academic experiences. One of the goals of this project is to help students overcome those barriers. Special consideration will be given to students with disabilities, of low income and who self-identify as Indigenous.
Expenses that are covered for successful participants:
- round trip flight to host country
- accommodation in country
- food costs in country
- vaccinations
- visas
- pre-departure and re-integration accommodation, food and tuition costs
