Giving Tuesday Now, recognized by the hashtag #GivingTuesdayNow, is a global day of giving and unity that will take place as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Giving Tuesday Now is not just about raising money, it’s about providing an opportunity for people around the world to come together and strengthen their communities,” says Stephanie Gobin, Selkirk College’s Manager of Advancement & Community Relations. “Collective kindness is instrumental to the healing of our communities. Giving Tuesday Now is a way to connect for the greater good.”
Giving Tuesday Now will wrap up the Selkirk College COVID-19 Student Relief Campaign, which was launched on April 7 with an ambitious target of $60,000 raised in a month to support students affected by the pandemic. Just three weeks in, the campaign has hit and surpassed its bold target through the generosity and support of donors.
Just as the generosity of donors has surpassed expectations, so too has the need within the student body. Since announcing the relief fund, the Financial Aid Office has received close to 600 student applications for financial support, with a collective need of approximately $500,000. As a response to this need, local organizations including the Selkirk College Students’ Union and the PPWC Local 26 have stepped up and made large contributions to relief funding.
Selkirk College Foundation announced today that they will be increasing the COVID-19 Student Relief Campaign goal on Giving Tuesday Now, with hopes of raising additional funds in 24 hours.
“It’s clear – this is a critical time for post-secondary students,” says Gobin. “We need to do everything we can to support learners. We hope that by increasing our goal, more people will be inspired to come together on Giving Tuesday Now.”
Selkirk College Foundation will be releasing another exciting announcement on Giving Tuesday Now.
