During my time in Jamaica I have gained a deep appreciation for my professional abilities, proper resource management, and for the struggles people have to endure in third world countries. I am humbled by the fact that I have been able to learn such technical and enjoyable skills for creating art and communicating information.
I've seen and experienced some of the hardships that come with Jamaica such as lack of clean drinking water, unbearable heat, crime and violence, poor health care, lack of police services, and waste management, and through these hardships I have gained a real appreciation for the standard of living Canada offers.
Work Skills Honed
The experience has refined my eye for photography and design through practice and feedback from our organization. This has simplified my style and influenced me to make more digestible designs which therefore appeal to a wider audience more immediately. It has also sped up my workflow greatly- simplifying my job and not over-analyzing design has made it more enjoyable, faster, and given me more confidence that I know how to do my job effectively with little management. This confidence will help me in both a freelance and team environment going forward when rationalizing my thought process to coworkers and clients.
